Beaches

Obviously one of the greatest things about Kauai is it’s beaches. Here is my advice on the best beach for you.

If you want a kid friendly beach these are the best bets.

Anahola Beach – This beach is on our north side. Anahola beach has a reef that protects it from big waves so it is great for little ones or anyone who does not want big waves. It also has snorkeling fairly close to shore. There is a restroom at the beach park and benches for picnics.

Lydgate Beach – Lydgate is on our east side. Lydgate has a protected area for people to swim. There are 2 areas to swim. One is for little kids which is shallow and smaller. The other is bigger and is for all ages. There is a lifeguard there as well. The beach park has a wonderful playground, restrooms and picnic tables. There is also a walking/bike path along the beach.

Poipu Beach – Poipu beach is on our south side. Poipu beach usually does not have super big waves (they are even smaller in the winter ). There is a lifeguard at this beach. The beach park has a playground, restrooms and picnic tables. It is often more crowded than the other beaches due to the high number of nearby resorts.

East Side Beaches

Kealia Beach

Kealia Beach is a really good beach for boogie boarding, surfing and working on your tan. It is just north of Kapaa. There is a lifeguard at this beach. This beach has restrooms and picnic tables.

Kealia Beach

Donkey Beach

Donkey Beach

Donkey Beach is a little bit north of Kapaa and Kealia Beach. If you want a beach with very few people on it this might be the beach for you. You’ll see an occasional surfer here but not many tourists. Just watch out because sometimes this beach has a strong undertow current. There is no lifeguard, no restrooms and no picnic tables. You have to walk a short way to get to this beach but it is an easy walk.
